In conclusion, Carpenter Street was
a place that you should come at least one time in your life especially for
person who live in the urban city with the busy life and advanced building.
Along the Carpenter street, you can experience the more than a century’s worth
of history and culture here through the buildings , foods, commercials, and
even through the shop house owner at there. The road was clean and clear which
provided you a beautiful and temptation place to leave up your stresses and
upsets.
Besides, the Chinese shop house
architecture are special and keep maintain the traditional, many of them have
been occupied by the same family for generations to generations , some of them
even until the fourth generation which still pursue traditional occupations
such as tin-smiting, carpentry and petty trading. According to Chinese religion
, most of the assets ,craft, and business will transfer through the generations
to generations especially to the boy site to maintain the same surname. They
are pursued or forced to continue this craft and business for being lost. Yet,
with the effect of globalization, most of the shop house owner especially the old
age owner story that they will close the business soon because not one of their
son or grandson want to continue this business especially the traditional
business because of the high education their gain. Through the interview, we
know that most of their children are graduate from local or oversea
university which now having a high grade and salary jobs. The shop house owners
are feeling proud to their children but also feel sad for being force to end up
their business which hand down from their parent. So, if you don’t want to miss
this, you should come to this memorable place to enjoy it, or else, you will
regret if you let slip it.
A historical place – Carpenter
Street which called “Attap Street” as in the Mandarin wording on the red arch
in the old days was a place which cannot miss it when you come to Sarawak.
Although it has gradually change and develop compared to the previous time, but
the government of Sarawak and Tourisms Department Sarawak are doing their best
with the cooperation of the shop house owner at carpenter street to maintain
the original look of the carpenter street as a memorable historical place which
contain more than 100 years building,culture and also the social history.
